Biography:

One Direction are a British-Irish boy band consisting of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson. The group was formed in the seventh season of The X Factor UK where they finished third. Liam, Harry, Zayn, Louis and Niall, each applied as a solo candidate to the competition, but didn't qualify for the 'Boys' category. Following Nicole Scherzinger's suggestion they formed One Direction and qualified in the 'Groups' category. Following the X Factor, One Direction signed with Simon Cowell's label Syco Records and later to Columbia Records. In November 2011, One Direction released their debut album 'Up All Night' which is the fastest selling debut album in UK that year. In 2012 'Up All Night' debuted at number on in the Billboard 200 chart making One Direction the first British group to ever debut at #1 in the U.S chart history. The album features the hit singles 'What Makes You Beautiful', 'Gotta Be You', 'More Than This' and 'One Thing'. Along with their musical success, the boys support various foundations and charities and have endorsed Pokemon, Nokia, HarperCollins and Hasbro. In May 2012, One Direction began recording their second studio album set for release later in 2012.

One Direction's Harry Styles dated 15-years-older Caroline Flack. In February 2011, the band released 'One Direction: Forever Young (Our Official X Factor Story)' which is the first official One Direction-licensed book presenting personal photos, backstage accounts and writings by each member. One Direction is often referred to as the 'British Invasion' in the US. In 2012, One Direction won "Worst Band" at the NME Awards.
