They never were completely gone, but The Foo Fighters are back into the studio.

A couple of years ago, The Foo Fighters announced that they were taking a brake from from music so that they could return “with a new sense of purpose”. Dave Grohl said in 2008."We've never really taken a long break, I think it's time." Although that wasn't a complete silence with a couple of compilations now new song appear.
Grohl revealed during the Independent Spirit Awards ceremony, las Friday, that the band will work with Butch Vig on their seventh album. Butch Vig is best known to be the drummer of Garbage and the producer of the albums Nevermind by Nirvana and Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins.
The album will be part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind. “Me and [Foos drummer] Taylor [Hawkins] have already started demoing songs,” Grohl told the Rolling Stone Magazine.
Theres not date for the release but apparently the band will return to the studio to record at the end of summer. The new album will be the follow up to 2007s "Echoes, Silence Patience and Grace".
Dave Grohl will also release new material with Them Crooked Vultures
