The network calls the singer's gesture "inappropriate" and "disappointing".
M.I.A and
Nicki Minaj joined
Madonna on stage for her highly-anticipated
Super Bowl performance.
Out of the three, it was
M.I.A who got the most press, bad press that is, due to her middle finger gesture during her solo.
The '
Bad Girls' singer flashed her middle finger to the cameras, and due to a delay in the network's system, it was for everyone to see.
NBC immediately issued an apology:
"We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late."
The rep continues:
"There was a failure in NBC's delay system. The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans."
Well, Madonna did promise no nipple slip during her performance but she didn't say anything about any obscene gestures coming from her co-stars.
