Eva Longoria, who hosted the ceremony, wanted to pay a homage to Lady Gaga, as she couldn't attend to the ceremony because of her European tour.

Last night, Madrid, Spain became the epicenter of the music world as the European city hosted the MTV Europe Awards Ceremony.
The event turned out to be a success and tons of international artists didn’t want to miss it. Kate Perry, along with husband Russell Brand, made their first public appearance after their Indian wedding. Perry also performed live one of her hits “California Gurls.” Colombian super star Shakira was in charge of opening the show, performing “Waka Waka” and “Loca.”
Rihanna also introduced to the public her song “Only Girl,” with an amazing performance that transformed the stage on a painting of Magritte.
LadyGaga became once again the big winner of the night, however she couldn’t make is to Madrid as she was touring, so that she did their acceptance speeches via satellite from Budapest. Actress Eva Longoria was in charge of hosting the event and one of the most talked about moments of the gala was when she had to introduce the Bad Romance hit maker. Longoria hit the stage on a Ham dress very much alike to the Meat outfit that Gaga rocked a couple of months ago: "Lady Gaga couldn't be here tonight, but she left this dress in the refrigerator backstage for me," the "Desperate Housewives" star said.
Once again, MTV proved that they know how to put together a great show.
