A$AP Rocky (ASAP Rocky), real name Rakim Mayers, born October 3, 1988, in Harlem, New York, U.S, is an American rapper and music video director. His stage name, A$AP Rocky, comes from the hip hop collective A$AP Mob. He started his career at the young age of 8 and listed Wu-Tang Klan, Run DMC, Three 6 Mafia and UGK as his influences. A$AP Rocky had a rough childhood, with his father arrested when he was just 12, and an older brother killed when he was 13. Rocky started A$AP Mob in 2007 and adopted the stage name A$AP Rocky. In 2011, a fan released the unofficial compilation 'Deep Purple' featuring Rocky's Youtube hits. Same year, in August, the rapper's debut single 'Peso' leaked and was extremely well received by fans and music critics. The successful hit was followed by the release of the mixtape 'LiveLoveA$AP'. Currently, A$AP Rocky is working on his debut studio album 'LongLiveA$AP', set for release in September 2012. The rapper already released the official lead single 'Goldie'. He is also working on an album with A$AP Mob. His latest collaboration was with Lana Del Rey for her 'National Anthem' music video.
