Macaulay Culkin divorces his parents

When Macaulay Culkin’s parents (who never married) officially split up, they began to argue over their successful children and $17 million of Macaulay’s money. The Home Alone star was therefore forced to divorce his parents at the age of just 16 years old to maintain control of his substantial (to say the least) finances. Sweeping over all the ins and outs, the court agreed to emancipate him from his dear Ma and Pa’s control so he could keep a close watch over his hard earned dollar.

Drew Barrymore divorces parents

While divorcing parents isn’t a particularly fashionable thing to do, more stars have done it than you might think. Drew Barrymore had a very troubled childhood smoking from the age of 9, drinking from the age of 11 and snorting cocaine at 13. Checking into rehab twice and attempting suicide, the young star was extremely troubled and ended up going to stay with singer David Crosby and his wife. With people committed to help, Barrymore later petitioned for emancipation from her parents and soon moved into her own apartment – it is thought she never looked back.

Britney and Lynne Spears

Pop star Britney Spears and her mother Lynne always seem to be at each other’s throats. With reports of slap fights and raging feuds, the pair apparently doesn’t get on and provide the media with endless stories and gossip. Angry at her mother’s constant interference with her life, Brit reportedly sent Lynne Spears legal documents and a poem entitled “Dear Mama”. The singer is also though to have sent a CD with secret phone calls between Lynne and her ex Kevin Federline proving that Lynne allowed Kevin to see her grandsons without Britney’s permission. Ouch!

Kerry and Sue Katona

Kerry Katona has certainly received a lot of bad press in the past; however, some of it was fuelled by her very own mother. Sue Katona reportedly sold storied on her own daughter claiming she needed help with drug taking and was a neglectful mother. Despite being put into care when she was just 13, Kerry has had somewhat of a relationship with her mum, even buying her a house – from which Sue was evicted.  

Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie famously cut her dad Jon Voight out of her life in 2001 after he reportedly voiced concerns over her mental health before she adopted son Maddox from Cambodia. The pair began to reconcile in 2009, after eight long years and are now thought to be in contact more regularly. Who knows what he thinks about her growing brood these days, however, they were all seen in Venice, Italy last year.

Family arguments can be bad, but let’s hope you never have to divorce your parents or sell stories on your kids.
